5000 Hydrogen Vehicle Challenge

The 5,000 Hydrogen Vehicle Challenge is bringing partners together to kickstart the transition of the commercial transportation sector to hydrogen and position the Edmonton region as a central hub for North America’s hydrogen economy.

Alberta Zero Emission Hydrogen Transit

The Alberta Zero Emission Hydrogen Transit (AZEHT) project will demonstrate two hydrogen fuel cell electric buses (FCEB) to be used in road trials shared by the municipalities of Edmonton, Strathcona County, with the active participation of Calgary, and Banff/Bow Valley.

Zero Emission Vehicle Awareness

In collaboration with Deloitte, the Hub is leading a Zero Emission Vehicle Awareness Initiative funded by Natural Resources Canada. This project includes a state assessment report, a Total Cost of Ownership Calculator, and web resources to highlight hydrogen opportunities for medium and heavy-duty vehicles.

AMTA Workforce Development

The Alberta Motor Transport Association (AMTA) is training mechanics to service hydrogen fuel cell engines. Mechanics from Diesel Tech Industries, NAIT, City of Edmonton, Strathcona County, Bison Transport, and Trimac collaborated with Nikola experts to gain hands-on experience with hydrogen vehicle technology

ATCO Fort Saskatchewan Hydrogen Blending Project

In a first-of-its-kind project for Alberta, ATCO began delivering a blend of natural gas containing five per cent hydrogen by volume into a subsection of the Fort Saskatchewan natural gas distribution system in October 2022

Air Products’ proprietary Liquid to Gaseous Portable Hydrogen Fueler (L to G Fueler) utilizes next generation mobile fueling technology and offers the benefits of high-density liquid hydrogen storage with high efficiency vaporization, compression, and safe gas dispensing at up to 700 bar (70 MPa) pressure.
